Outdoor Adventures
Outdoor Adventures provides a fun and welcoming environment that allows students to learn how to navigate the city, explore areas throughout Vancouver, engage with nature and build connections with their peers. Students can expect to participate in a wide range of activities which will include anything from learning about different types of plants and birds at the Bloedel Conservatory to exploring the contemporary art exhibitions throughout Vancouver. Students can also expect to learn about and engage with the history of colonial settlement on the lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Diverse forms of transit will be utilized to transport students all over the city, giving students the skills necessary to navigate the city independently. Outdoor Adventures provides students with new experiences in which they learn to engage with the city and their peers.
Your Educator – Troy Collins
Troy grew up in the hills of Coquitlam. A life-long student, they completed their BSc at UBC and an MSc in Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Toronto. Troy is fascinated by Biology, and has had the pleasure of working with a cool variety of animals. A sure fire way to get them on a tangent is to bring up honey bees or naked mole rats! Troy has also worked as a swimming instructor and a leader for the Boys and Girls Club, and finds no greater joy than seeing a student’s understanding illuminate in real time. Troy teaches Math and Science at Brain Boost. You are equally likely to find them in front of a book or wandering the trails of North Vancouver.
