Math 10
“When am I ever gonna use X in real life?”
Foundations and Pre-Calculus Math 10 is an introduction to the abstract world of mathematics. Students are required to reach a deeper understanding of algebra, linear functions and trigonometry, and so in this course Sam aims to frame these topics in both a practical and intriguing context. Students of this course should be expecting a challenge, and be prepared to meet this challenge with a commitment to working hard in and out of the classroom. Sam has a personal passion for viewing the world through a mathematical lens, and values the opportunity to share this insight with his students. There is no guarantee that taking this course will change your life, but maybe we?ll figure out the probability of such an outcome together.
Your Teacher – Emily Duncan
Emily is passionate and sometimes overly enthusiastic about math, but she also helps her students appreciate real-world science (Math FTW though). She has years of experience STEMing with a variety of students from young teenagers to mature adults, sparking their passion for how the world works. Still a learner herself, she plans to go back to school to become a certified teacher. While she is a true local; Fraser Valley born-and-raised, a B.Sc, Mathematics from UBC Okanagan, she also has big plans to see the world. When Emily isn?t being a nerd about math, you can find her googling snow reports for the local mountains and itching to get outside. Emily usually doesn?t write about herself in the third person.
