Markie Giammarino

Markie has a curiosity for all subjects and while teaching primarily math he caters to the diverse course load of his students. When Markie graduated high school in 2005 he started working with Brainboost and continued to do so while obtaining his degree in psychology and philosophy at UBC. From installing gardening boxes at the Hub to bringing in weekly baked goods to provide for Brainboost’s charitable programs, Markie loves making use of his passions to help contribute to the overall aura of the hub. This upcoming year, Markie will lead the Sustainability 12 class through an activity of public restoration with the “Salmonids in the Classroom” program through the winter and spring. Students will foster juvenile salmon before releasing them into local estuary systems while learning how Markie’s favorite animal, the salmon, is a substantial element of many BC ecosystems. Markie’s interests are not just limited to gardening and wildlife. He’s also an avid sports fan, home renovator and an imaginative cook. The opportunity to facilitate the growth of a person and to help them find their own source of passion motivates Markie to find the best way he can assist his students in their endeavours.
