IDS Workshop
Do you have a current interest that isn’t being explored by the curriculum? Always wanted to learn about gardening? How the movie industry works or some other curiosity? Brainboost?s Independent Directed Studies POD group can help you learn more about your inner fascinations.
The Independent Directed Studies POD is an open-design, credit course that invites students to learn about a topic of their choice. Together with their Brainboost and online teachers, students will identify the specific ideas they wish to dive deeper in and collaboratively craft a curriculum that meets their learning goals. Being in the driver?s seat empowers students to custom-tailor their learning experience while also honing independent study skills like time-budgeting, teacher communication and study strategy deployment. The IDS course is a great fit for students who feel confident working independently but who also want support in getting acquainted with the the demands of post-secondary school. The POD group will meet every Tuesday night from 6-8 PM to help orient the learning outcomes of each student, with the additional component of independent work to be managed by the student in the days between classes.
