Cooking Foundations

This class is all about practical, hands-on experience in the kitchen. From chopping to sauteing, students will gain the skills they need to nourish themselves and their families. Whether you’re interested in baking cookies, grilling the perfect cheese sandwich or creating the wildest pizza toppings, students will experiment with processes and ingredients while exploring the nutritional value in our foods.

Your Educator – Chantelle Twynstra

Chantelle was born and raised in Vancouver. They graduated from UBC with a degree in Biology and then went on to obtain a diploma in Culinary Arts from the Northwest Culinary Academy. Chantelle is very passionate about nutrition, sustainable food systems and ecology and loves to try out new recipes! While completing their undergraduate degree, Chantelle had the pleasure of being a Teacher’s Assistant for two years. Chantelle also spent many years working as a swim instructor and loves creating fun and interesting ways to engage with educational material.

In their spare time, Chantelle loves playing softball, trying out fun new vegetarian recipes and going for long hikes and backpacking trips!
